How to use the Compass

Using your E.C.A Denise watch as a compass is an easy and reliable way to find your place when lost in the wilderness or out sea. It never needs recalibrating and will be correct 100% of the time, as long as you have set the watch’s time accurately.

The reading of the compass is divided in two segments, judging on where you are located, on the Northern or Southern hemisphere and what time of day it is. Note that we will start with the PM compass procedure.

Northern Hemisphere – PM time (12-24h)

Click to show/minimize

1. Take of your watch and lay it flat in your hands. Turn your whole body so that the hour hand of the watch points towards the sun.

– Point the hour hand towards the sun

2. While in this position, turn the bezel so the orange pointer precisely bisect the area between 12 o’clock and the hour hand, marking the center between these points.

– Bisect the area between 12h and the hour hand using the bezels arrow pointer.

3. The “N” will now point towards North

During daylight savings time (winter time), use 1 o’clock instead of 12’ when bisecting the area between it and the hour hand.

AM time (00-12h)

During AM time the procedure is the same, just bisect the area on the opposite side of 12h (between the hour hand and 12 o’clock).

Southern Hemisphere – PM time (12-24h)
